Another very successful competition today, this time the venue was the much anticipated Plassey. The river was in excellent condition and plenty of swims available. We also had the club boats out again today to great effect as we dropped Anglers to the far side.

28 Anglers fished in what were lovely conditions, plenty sunshine a couple of showers and a mild breeze. The river was full of life with a lot of small fish jumping from the water and great to see so many swans, geese, ducks, snipe and plenty other birds which reflects on the healthy condition that stretch is in, it is very encouraging to see it.

So after everyone settled in to their spot, corbally baths, red path, head of the canal, engine house, mouth of the groody, mouth of the Blackwater and up to the black bridge the super action that today threw up wasn’t long getting going with Jack Pike once again getting off the mark with a beautiful 8 pounder in pristine condition.

It got steadily better with seasoned angler Denis Kerley landing a 9lb 7oz beauty closely followed by outstanding young Angler Lee Duggan with a cracker at 13.0 lb ( Lee had 28lb 2oz for 2 fish, brilliant fishing) then after it went quiet for 30 minutes another fine Angler Darragh Williams landed his best fish of the year so far with an immaculate 15.0lb Fish. At this stage there were nice pike being landed all along the stretch, our only lady Angler Charlene Dillon showed us how it was done with an 11lb 1oz cracker and it turned out to be a brilliant day.

A special thanks to the Anglers that looked after our juniors, Kevin Foley took 2 juniors under his wing all day and they had a brilliant day out, no better man to pass on his vast knowledge to the younger members, he showed them a lot today, and to Peter Hannan who had 3 juniors under his stewardship today also, a big thank you for all your help with our juniors.

With all the action going on everyone put in a great effort and fished very hard, and with a few competitions left to go, a good few members have one eye on the league as it is getting interesting at this point, especially as club stalwart Noel Hayes upset the league table with a brilliant days fishing throwing up 25lb 13oz for 3 fish, a cracking days piking well done to you Noel, you did say Plassey would fish well and you were right.

So with 4 competitions left in our winter / spring league things are getting interesting and it is still anyone’s in both senior and juniors league tables, a lot of fishing to be done yet, we should still keep an eye on a few club members even though they have no score on the board yet, I would still put my money on some of them to come good yet. Jack Pike is keeping his nose in front at the moment but you can be sure he is looking over his shoulder at the same time.

Our next outing will be on March 03rd, again we will be at Plassey, who is going to get the elusive 20 pounder same as today check in at Musgraves 0930.

After that March 24th Lough Gur
April 07th castleconnell
21st April Pumphouse

A big thank you to all who turned out today to make the day another successful memorable days fishing.

A special word of thanks to University Limerick who very kindly allowed us to use their excellent facilities at their boat house to launch our boats and also to Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) who kindly gave us some lovely items including educational posters for our kids and junior members, they were delighted with them. Also thank you to Martin Kiely and Caroline Kiely who sponsored first place today in our senior section.
