Welcome to Limerick and District Anglers Association founded 1939


We will be starting a coarse angling league in March or April of this year to teach young anglers how to match fish for some other species that are hugely abundant in our river.

There are plentiful stocks of roach, rudd, dace, bream, perch, hybrids, tench, etc and fishing for them on a light whip or rod is a beautiful way of angling.  It is hands on as you are constantly either casting, reeling in, baiting up, tweaking your tackle or float and it is an ideal type of angling for the junior that likes to be doing something all the time.  It also teaches them how to handle and respect the fish and the general environment.  In contrast there can be a long wait between fish when Pike angling.
We would intend to concentrate some of our coarse angling to some of the excellent city venues such as the Canal, Plassey, Corbally and The Gut and would encourage any young person who might be interested to come along and give it a go.  We will have a limited amount of tackle to loan to them on the day, therefore they do not have to worry about going out to buy expensive equipment to join in with us.

The Club resumed its long-standing tradition of Pike Angling Competitions on the Shannon.  

Covering a vast area of the Shannon from O’Brien’s Bridge & its tributaries down to Thomond Bridge in the heart of Limerick City. It is the club’s intention to ensure that the River and its world-renowned Game, Pike and Coarse angling can continue for many generations to come. We have an emphasis on ensuring our younger generation of anglers get to experience the rich traditions of angling and hand the river over in time to come.

We acknowledge all the men and women that were part of creating this super fishery and making it what it is today, and for that we thank them for their hard work and commitment to the Limerick & District Angling Association. The club recently resumed its long-standing tradition of pike angling competitions on the Shannon which are proving to be a huge success. We are currently looking for new members and especially junior anglers to join our ranks to learn about fishing and give them the opportunity to experience the positive impact fishing and being outdoors in general can offer.

Also, for the salmon anglers, or indeed any anglers that are interested in fly casting, we will be holding open & information days to improve your casting techniques. Keep an eye on our page for all updates & information.

Lough Gur competition
